Babywearing Class 101

Babywearing Class 101

Wearing your baby has many advantages to both parent & baby. Here are just a few :

  • Bonding & Closeness. There’s nothing like close contact with your baby to give them a sense of security and comfort, especially loved by most newborns who are instantly calmed by their parent’s heartbeat, scent and touch
  • Safety: What could be safer than keeping your baby on your body?
  • Convenience: Rather than struggling with large bulky strollers, especially on Asia’s less than perfect sidewalks, wearing your baby offers you the maximum mobility & convenience
  • Muscular Development: Being held is the most natural thing in the world for any baby. Being held rather than sitting static in a pram encourages muscular development & greater body awareness. (Not to mention, it helps parents get fit too!)

There are many, many options out there for wearing your baby. It’s easy to get confused by all the choices. Or maybe you have been given a babywearing tool (a sling? a wrap?) that you have no idea how to use.

If you are confused by all the choices available to wear your baby & a little nervous because you aren’t sure if you’re doing it right, this is the perfect introductory course for you.

Our babywearing consultant has been trained by the Babywearing Institute (USA) & not to mention is an avid babywearer herself. She has been advising parents for 3 years on babywearing – if you have a problem, we bet she’s heard it before.

You will be walked through all the different types of carriers, what to be aware of (e.g. head positioning for newborns & leg positioning to avoid hip dysplasia) and how to use each type of carrier. Every type of carrier has its pros and cons – this is where you find out what they are.

About the Class

Class costs RM50.00 to be paid to book your place – but this is 100% redeemable against purchases from Tiny Tapir (i.e. if you buy a carrier, the class costs you nothing)

* We recommend you bring your fed and rested baby. Every participant may bring a ‘helper’ (co-parent, grandparent or nanny)

Class size is maximized at 8 pax

Class Venue : our store on 3F-1D Bangsar Village 2 (next to Fit for 2, Opposite Kid Sports)

About us

Tiny Tapir has the most comprehensive range of babywearing products (baby carriers) in Asia from 3 types of wraps, Mei Tais, 3 brands of Ring Slings, countless brands of Soft Structured Carriers and also Frame Carriers – we can help you to find the best babycarrier for your needs.

Baby Sling Safety

Some of our wonderful Baby Carrier suppliers have recently come out with a press release on the safety of baby carriers, given the current widespread news about Bag Slings and their causing suffocation in babies.

Back when we first started considering stocking baby carriers, Bag Slings were pretty popular online and I even had a supplier send one to me for testing.  When I saw it, i just never thought it would be safe. It was really deep, did not seem like it would be comfortable and I didn’t see how a baby would be anything but lost in all that fabric..

BUT , baby slings are only a small fraction of babywearing tools – most carriers will help you to carry your baby with NO risk of suffocation – just be aware of the basics – baby’s chin should NEVER be pressed against their chest – see this pdf document for full details – this is especially important when your baby is a newborn up to approx 4 months when babies develop good neck / head control.

Picnic@the Bungalow – 9th August 2009

The picnic went off pretty good, with a good turnout and lots of kids running around and enjoying the Bungalow’s facilities.

There was the sandbox, little blow up horses to ride, the trampoline to jump on, Cupcake decorating with the Doodlebug ladies, arts and crafts in the courtyard, storytelling by Ann of the Roving library.  And for the grownups, there were some great vendors to browse through.

There was Chicken and Sausages on the BBQ with hot dog rolls and salad, sandwich rolls, home made cookies and cupcakes and plenty of cold drinks in the ice box.   Lots of parents bought their own picnic too, and enjoyed eating it out on the grass in the open air.

Upstairs, the bento-making proved very popular (thanks Christene!) while there was plenty of mamas helping mamas with learning how to ring sling and what cloth padding is all about – Mama Patch, Jumpsac and Mei’s Mei Tai were in attendance.  (no, the cloth pad making demo didn’t happen, but hopefully next time! I think we were too busy chilling out downstairs).

Thanks to everyone for making it such a success, we hope everyone had a great time and that you’ll want to come to the next one!

Moby Wraps now available in Malaysia

Moby Wraps! Yay!  Great for all babies, but especially harrassed mothers of newborn twins or preemie babies…

Tiny Tapir loves supporting and promoting babywearing and bringing new carriers into Malaysia.

The Moby Wrap is one we’re proud to bring in – the first wrap to hit Malaysia’s shores (well, so far as we know).

Wraps are a great way to babywear your newborn baby (preemie babies especially do well in wraps).  Super soft and stretchy – like your favorite T-shirt material, we just know that wraps are going to be seen around Kuala Lumpure more and more.
